Frequently Asked Questions
What is the NPS tax benefit?
NPS offers three tax benefits: Section 80CCD(1) up to 10% of salary (within the ₹1.5L 80C limit), 80CCD(1B) extra ₹50,000 over and above 80C, and 80CCD(2) employer contribution up to 10% of salary (14% for central govt) without any upper limit.
Can I withdraw NPS before 60?
Partial withdrawal up to 25% of own contribution is allowed after 3 years for specified purposes. On premature exit before 60, at least 80% of the corpus must be used to buy an annuity. At 60, up to 60% is tax-free lump sum and 40% must go to annuity.
What returns can I expect from NPS?
NPS has historically delivered 9-12% annualised returns depending on asset allocation. Equity (E) allocation is capped at 75% for subscribers below 50 in Tier-I.
